Organisations such as Buurtzorg, Spotify, Patagonia and many others have demonstrated that it is possible to deliver high quality services and products in highly competitive and regulated markets while reducing bureaucracy and micro-management. Through models in which frontline staff are encouraged and supported to make important decisions themselves and take full ownership of what they have been asked to deliver, these trailblazing organisations have evidenced that work can be fulfilling and deliver excellent organisational performance at the same time. If anything, as our societies become increasingly complex and our workforce more demanding, these practices may well become essential for organisations to survive.
This half-day workshop will inspire participants to rethink what is possible if long-held conventions are challenged. A number of case-studies will illustrate how organisations can deliver high-quality services and products in settings in which staff are empowered to make their own decisions and take ownership for their performance. In the workshop we will explore how this is done, and what conditions and mechanisms are important to operate in this way. Together we will consider what of this may be relevant to your organisation and how you could make a start.
Half day workshop, in person or online. Group size ideally max 50.
Organisations, leadership teams and whole systems that want to see the possible, the alternative.
This workshop could be the starting point for a bespoke programme of change. A recommended next step could be to participate in our Moving Towards Self-Management programme, or have us conduct a tailormade version of this programme for your organisation.
This workshop is provided by Tania Eber and Paul Jansen, formerly of Buurtzorg Britain & Ireland, and OD specialists in concepts of self-management and autonomous working.
